OBD II Codes (P0000 - P0099) | P0006 “Fuel Shutoff Valve Control Circuit Low”

OBD II Codes (P0000 - P0099) | P0006 “Fuel Shutoff Valve Control Circuit Low”

Meaning:

Meaning: The fuel shut off solenoid is used to shut off the fuel supply to the fuel pump. It is typically controlled by the starter via a relay. When the ignition is off, the spring-loaded plunger is in the down position, blocking fuel flow to the pump. When the starter is cranked, power is applied to the solenoid from the shut off relay. The plunger is then moved to up position, allowing fuel delivery to the pump. When the ignition switch is released and the engine is running, low amperage current is applied to another winding on the solenoid to keep it in the up position.

causes:

The Fuel Shutoff Valve "A" Control Low code may have several causes:

• Possible short in the sensor connector
• A shorted wire going to the ECM
• The ECM is damaged
• A faulty fuel shut off solenoid
• A faulty fuel shut off solenoid relay
• A problem in the fuel shut off solenoid circuit
• A problem with the PCM

Symptoms:

The P0006 code will produce a Check Engine Light on the dashboard. Likely symptoms include:

• Check engine light is on
• Reduced engine performance
• Engine stalling
• Reduced fuel mileage
• Engine won’t start

The P0006 fault code may cause your vehicle to have:

Effect caused:

• Lower fuel economy
• Inability to start
• Dieseling issues (not turning off)
• Stalling issues at any time while driving
• Inability to pass emissions testing

Diagnosis:

• Lower fuel economy
• Inability to start
• Dieseling issues (not turning off)
• Stalling issues at any time while driving
• Inability to pass emissions testing

Solution:

The most common procedure to repair the P0006 code is as follows:

• Connect a professional scan tool to verify the code exists.
• Perform research from professional sources for testing and values based upon the code.
• Check for any other fault codes which may be related to the issue.
• Perhaps clear the fault codes to see which fault codes return.
• Analyze scan tool data from the ECM.
• Road test the vehicle while analyzing the scan tool data from the ECM with other tools attached.
• Verify if the P0006 code returns or the symptoms exist.
• Inspect all the items listed above (wiring, voltages, etc.)
• Further diagnose the problem with the special tools listed above if the problem appears to repeat.
• The signals and wiring from the sensor require analyzing to determine where the problem exists. If the signals are fine, then further testing of the wiring, computer, or fuel system is required.
• Replace the fuel shutoff valve, wiring, or the faulty component.
